I am not saying that there are not better immersion blenders available, because I don’t honestly know, but for the price, this is a very good one. It has satisified all requirements, and has been used frequently for a wide variety of purposes for about a month now. If you are a chef, and know exactly what you will use this for, then you can buy this brand with confidence.
As to the brand, Kitchen-Aid, a number of their products are in my kitchen right now, and I have to say, it is in general a brand of quality and distinction, at least for middle-class families, and especially compared among the brands you will find in your average department store. The price/performance ratio is Good.

Amazon sells the two best (I know that is gramatically incorrect since there can be only 1 ‘best’).
Cuisinart:
1) $15 less, even taking into account the $5 KitchenAid rebate.
2) Nylon guard which means the preparer may use right in the cooking vessel.
3) Longer warranty (18 mos. versus 12 mos. KitchenAid).
KitchenAid:
1) Multi-speed (versus 2-speed for the Cuisinart).
2) Mixing attachment is removable which means easier storage.
3) Choice of colors (for those who care).

Have to say “ditto” to all the reviewers below–I owned another brand before but it wasn’t nearly as powerful. At least one reviewer expresses concern about keeping the blades clean, so I must note that the instructions indicate everything but the motor housing–which detaches from the blade element–can go in the dishwasher!!

I considered this an optional kitchen item, but I hate having to make sauce or soup by dipping it out of the pot a little at a time into the blender, then pouring it into another bowl–tedious and time-consuming. I was doubtful that something like this would do the job, but decided to give it a try. What fun! A simple on and off switch, an easily detachable and washable blade housing, and unlike most appliances these days, it comes with a long cord. And it’s plenty powerful for my purposes. Besides the fact that it blends leek and potato soup into a beautiful cream quickly, it also makes homemade mayonnaise in less than a minute, including the time it takes to gather the ingredients. That was my first attempt ever at mayonnaise, and it was easy, which was amazing. (Recipe using Egg Beaters, lemon juice and oil comes with it–just dump in all together and blend). I think it would be a little easier in another small bowl, rather than the one that came with the blender, however, as I ended up overblending it in that one. The one caveat I have is that, if one attempts to make bean soup, one should make sure all the big chunks of ham are taken out of the pot beforehand. There was this big THUNK, you see, and after cleaning bean juice off my stove, walls, floor, refrigerator, clothes, face and hair, I learned my lesson.

This product is absolutely awesome! I found it to be quite comfortable to use – it fitted so smug in my hand. My greatest appreciation is the design of it. I had options of sitting it down in my dish, or holding and stirring as I used it. I love products that are not labor intense. Being able to detach the mechanism made it an absolute piece of cake to clean. AND, there are other attachments that can be purchased to be used with this awesome piece.

I just purchased my new red Kitchenaid Immersion Blender. I used larger ice cubes to test it. It works GREAT! It actually works better than my Smoothie-maker blender. It’s much quieter than I thought it would be. And I got it for a great price! Yay me!

I became my wife’s student after my retirement last year. I scored consistently a low C until I bought this immersion blender based on an LA Times article. Now I whip up hummus, chutney and smoothies that even she acknowledges reluctantly, are worth a second notice.
It is easy to assemble -just insert the blade wand handle, easier to clean -just rinse and dry before storing, and compact sized. Variable speeds are available and the blades blend fruits, nuts and vegetables effortlessly.
The default lid does not close the base-beaker while you are blending. Without a cover the blending contents may spray if you are not wary. What I did was cut a slit with a central hole out of a plastic lid from a 32 oz Dannon yogurt carton. I use that to cover the beaker while blending. Works well for me.
Enjoy.

I am so happy with this blender. I love that the blade end is metal and removeable. It also has adjustable speeds. It’s really great!

This thing is great… I use it for chopping and grinding nuts, herbs, making smoothies and salad dressings, making hummus, pureeing beans for gravies, etc. It is so easy: plug it in, do your thing, remove the bottom half and give it a quick rinse in the sink. Presto! Clean and ready for your next project. With this thing, I have completely stopped using my countertop blender and my (awful) food processor.
I’ve only had this a few months, but even if it only lasts a year or two (I use it CONSTANTLY), as some reviewers have complained, replacing it is a significantly smaller investment than also eventually replacing the blender and processor. Not to mention this is SO EASY to clean compared to those other appliances, so the time investment is minuscule. That matters to me!
Highly recommended!!

This product does everything that it promises and works wonderfully. The best part of it is that the entire blending shaft is removable and can go into the dishwasher, this was one of its biggest selling points for me.
